Artist's Comments

this was a blast; it's an interesting process to lay down the watercolor first (in a sequence) and then follow it with ink. Something i've never tried before.

the subject and the idea may be very cliche.

Growth can be beneficial or detrimental. While a heart has the ability to grow a completely new member, literally or more abstractly (the tree can be seen as a new thought, or harbored feelings, etc.), it has to be sitting stagnant, doing nothing else, long enough to do so. not good.
the tree may die eventually; it can only last so long when its source is exhausted. apply this to any emotion. does it work?

This is probably my favorite work of yours. The bold colors on the heart really bring it alive.

You're right, following color with black lines is incredibly fun - I tend to do that when I play around with highlighter and pen.
